 Guglielmo Poletti (1987) is an Italian designer, currently based in Milan. He holds an MA in Contextual Design from the Design Academy Eindhoven, where he graduated in June 2016. His practice is driven by a constant search for the heart of the matter, combined with a fascination for basic structures and elementary constructions. His interest in the essence of things often leads him to investigate the limit of materials, dealing with the notions of balance and fragility. Within this set of circumstances, simplicity comes as the result of a solved complexity, where the work is built around the manipulation of unconventional details. Subtle gestures allow him to achieve a deeper impact, by deconstructing an image and then restoring it with the smallest intervention. A ‘thinking-through-making’ approach defines an experimental attitude, where intuition plays a significant role to ensure coherence in the work, getting to consistent results through a very personal vocabulary. In 2018, Poletti was selected among the six young designer winners of the Italian Rising Talent Awards at Maison & Objet in Paris. At the same time, he was shortlisted for the Officine Panerai Next Generation Designer of the Year as part of the 2018 Wallpaper* Design Awards. In 2019 he was shortlisted for the Elle Decoration International Design Awards.

What do you consider your greatest achievement? Having channelled my energies well enough in order to exploit the occasions hidden behind obstacles.

If you were to die and come back as a person or a thing, what would it be? A pianist.

What is your most marked characteristic? Control as a rebellion against life.
