Kristopher Grunert’s photographs are provoked by a curiosity and deep appreciation for architectural structures and industrial processes. Born in 1978 on the family farm of 125+ years near Yorkton, Saskatchewan, Canada Kristopher credits the prairie environment for developing his vision, spatial sense and cultivating an understanding of how to work within the Earth’s cycles. Regardless of the circumstances he calmly finds a way to show the beauty even in the most unlikely places.

What is your idea of perfect happiness?
Gone 10 days, back for 20.
Which living person do you most admire?
My wife.
What is your greatest extravagance?
Artwork. not really super extravagant but..

A little bit excited

Purity

That's sweet!
Which talent would you most like to have?
It must feel so good to be able to sing your lungs out or play an instrument fluidly for others to enjoy. I'd have to say music.
If you could change one thing about yourself, what would it be?
Be less critical. I'm working on it.
What do you consider your greatest achievement?
Hasn't happened yet. I think my greatest achievement will be to quit smoking for good.
If you were to die and come back as a person or a thing, what would it be?
Kristopher Grunert the 2nd. I hope that doesn't come across as being arrogant. It's just that if I had the choice I'd rather not start over from scratch.
Where would you most like to live?
I actually really like living here in the middle of nowhere (Saskatchewan, Canada) surrounded by my families farm of 125+ years. The land is vast and the sky is big which is great for dreaming. That said, it would be also be really nice to have apartments in Vancouver, LA and Montreal. I could easily spend a couple of months out of the year in each of those towns.
What is your most treasured possession?
Beyond all things, I'd have to say my son Luke. I love him so much.
What is your favorite occupation?
Making pictures.
What is your most marked characteristic?
Open minded verging on down right gullible.
What do you most value in your friends?
Honesty.
Who are your heroes in real life?
Any underdog who prevails, it moves me to tears all the time.
What is it that you most dislike?
Mustard, especially the really yellow kind.
What is your greatest regret?
Not going to Roger Waters concert at The Gorge back in 2000.
What is your motto?
I don't really have just one. I did write a short manifesto sometime ago that's posted on my wall above my computer...Nurture your relationship with light. Love it. Learn about it. See it. Feel it. Imagine it. Breathe it. Use photography to constantly explore. Photography is all about the journey, exploration and pursuit of knowledge. Intuitively follow the camera, it will lead you to new places and always teach you something new. Share what you learn with others. Take the long way around, you will have more opportunities to learn/ see, capture + discover. Money is an energy. Respect it. Embrace it. Spend it. Make it for yourself. Make it for others. Visit new places. Everything you need is all within reach. Simply reach out. Connect with other artists who inspire you. Earth is your home. Respect it. Clean it. Enjoy it. Build it. Humans are your family. Love them. Accept them. Share with them. Forgive them. Photography is a wonderful gift. Use it. Buy it. Sell it. Give it. Life/light is the ultimate gift. Love it. Respect it. Give thanks for it. Use it. Preserve it. Give it.
