Natalie Melton joined the Crafts Council as Creative Director in January 2019 and has spent more than a decade working in craft. From 2012- 2018 she was co-Founder and Managing Director of The New Craftsmen, which curates, commissions and sells unique contemporary objects rooted in craftsmanship and narrative and made by makers from across the British Isles.

What is your idea of perfect happiness?: Watching the sun set with the people I love
What is your greatest extravagance?: My credit card bills would suggest that its a tough competition between travel, lovely crafted objects for my house, and cocktails...
What is your current state of mind?: right now? extremely jolly. Its amazing how much a few solid hours working through my to-do list can elevate my mood...
Which words or phrases do you most overuse?: brilliant. fantastic. I'm so excited. and probably several that shouldn't be repeated in print
Which talent would you most like to have?: I'm a frustrated DJ. I wish I'd persevered with mixing vinyl
What do you consider your greatest achievement?: my two smart, opinionated, inquisitive & outgoing daughters.
What is your most treasured possession?: A ring that was designed and made for me
What do you most value in your friends?: Their ability to tolerate my dreadful dancing and insistence on controlling the playlist every time we get together.
