Andrea Small is a design strategist, educator, and writer. Her passion is to create strategic narratives for brands, products and experiences and answer “what is the the future of…“. Andrea consults for a wide range of clients, most recently for Facebook AR/VR and a stealth Future of Mobility startup. As a d.school Teaching Fellow, she and her cohort created award-winning education experiences. She is currently co-authoring and co-illustrating “A Designer’s Guide to Navigating Ambiguity” with d.school Teaching and Learning Experience Designer Kelly Schmutte, to be published by the d.school and Ten Speed Press in 2021. Andrea was previously Director of Product and Portfolio Strategy at Herman Miller focused on the Future of Work and Strategy Lead at Yves Behar’s fuseproject, where she lead strategic efforts for the Nike Foundation, Nivea, Starbucks, iRobot, British Gas, and more.

What is your current state of mind? Ready for change. I just completed an amazing year at the d.school, and I'm ready to wipe the slate clean and start a new adventure, personally and professional.

Which talent would you most like to have? Singing

If you could change one thing about yourself, what would it be? My mono-language fluency

What do you consider your greatest achievement? Being a Teaching Fellow at the d.school.

Nowhere and everywhere. My ideal life would be wherever I need to be, when I need to be there. I would love a place in all climates.

What is your most treasured possession? My Eames lounge chair and my mother's necklace from Italy.

What is your most marked characteristic? Curly hair. And I'm often called "tenacious" and "passionate."

What do you most value in your friends? Honesty and loyalty.

Who are your favorite writers? Margaret Atwood and Orson Scott Card.

What is your motto? High hopes, low expectations.
