Bernhardt Design + Plank Launch VELIT, An Award-Winning Stackable Indoor / Outdoor Chair
VELIT is a new, award-winning, waterproof, stackable chair designed for indoor and outdoor use. Designed by Björn Dahlström, who drew on his background as a graphic designer, VELIT was built from 20 simple lines that weave together to create an elaborate and functional shape. Experimenting with comfort, geometry, and sustainability, VELIT is an all-steel construction of thin metal rods that unite to create a beautifully robust chair with comfort at its heart.
Dahlström explains, “It is fascinating to ‘weave’ the lines together to create surfaces or, as in this case, an open structure that represents the seat and back. Not just a formal experiment, significant effort has been focused on the comfort and ergonomics, with the aim to create a very relaxed seating position, something a bit laid back to enjoy a good book and a cup of coffee.”
With its waterproof, metal-wire powder coated seat and backrest available in a variety of colors and removable self-skinning integral polyurethane cushion, VELIT is already making waves in the design industry; VELIT recently won the German Design Award 2023, taking home the top spot in Excellent Product Design - Gardening and Outdoor Living category.
The Jury, made up of talented designers and industry experts from Germany and beyond, bestowed the coveted award saying, “The weatherproof and stackable VELIT chair by Björn Dahlström is made of metal and impresses with a timeless filigree design language that fits into many environments and promises a comfortable sitting experience. An elegant design that unfolds its aesthetic effect indoors, too.”
