The Eames Institute of Infinite Curiosity Partners with SHVO for Groundbreaking Exhibition at the Iconic Transamerica Pyramid Center

The Eames Institute of Infinite Curiosity presents Past as Prologue, an exhibition spotlighting the seminal work Ray and Charles Eames created in the final decade of their collaboration. Opening during San Francisco Design Week in the newly revitalized Transamerica Pyramid Center, it marks the Institute’s first public installation beyond the Eames Archives and anchors a broader collaboration with SHVO and the Transamerica Pyramid Center to honor the Bay Area’s design legacy through a week-long program of events.

Past as Prologue delves into the ongoing refinement and technical adaptation demonstrating how the Eameses continued evolving their design process to address emergent needs. The exhibition sheds light on the last decade of their working together which culminated in new furniture designs from the duo while showcasing their present-day classic designs and unearths some that the public has rarely viewed.

In addition to the exhibition itself, The Eames Institute is partnering on two retail spaces within the iconic building. The first, situated in the newly redesigned Transamerica Pyramid lobby, will feature a curated selection of new and vintage merchandise, including furniture, books and home items. The second, located within the gallery space itself, will act as a gift shop, offering exhibition catalogs, current books on the Eames legacy and playful gift items.

Past as Prologue covers the same timeframe when the Transamerica Pyramid was completed and forever changed San Francisco’s skyline. The original Transamerica offices sported many original Eames furniture pieces, which can be seen in an original video that is part of the Time Capsule Exhibition running alongside the Institute’s featured show.

Past as Prologue will open to the public on June 7th. For further information please visit www.eamesinstitute.org/sfdw-25-events.
