Fondazione MAST Presents IMAGE CAPITAL curated by Francesco Zanot
Fondazione MAST is delighted to announce the upcoming exhibition, IMAGE CAPITAL, opening on 22 September 2022. Curated by Francesco Zanot, the exhibition is the collaborative result of photographer Armin Linke and photography historian Estelle Blaschke’s four year visual research project.
IMAGE CAPITAL focuses on photography’s functional value as information technology and its countless practical uses. The project explores photography as a system of creating, archiving, protecting, as well as exchanging visual information, exemplifying the true capital worth of the medium. Linke and Blaschke explore the different ways in which photography is used within various production processes, with particular focus on the fields of science, culture and industry.
“Within this exhibition,” explains Francesco Zanot, “photographic images are showcased for their true capital worth. The push to use photography as information technology occurred around the middle of the 20th century, when the management and administrative processes of companies and institutions were expanding and needed to be optimized. In a capitalist society, photography dominates not only the imagination, but much more."
Beginning with the texts by Estelle Blaschke, the photographic works of Armin Linke as well as compelling images, texts and other materials, the exhibition portrays photography as a means of access to systems of information that have improved exponentially over time. The exhibition is divided into six central themes and explores these processes, starting at the beginning of their history and reaching some of the most recent and updated technologies.
