Triennale Milano Announces the 23rd International Exhibition: Unknown Unknowns

Triennale Milano Announces the 23rd International Exhibition: Unknown Unknowns. An Introduction to Mysteries

Triennale Milano is delighted to present the program of the 23rd Triennale Milano International Exhibition, entitled Unknown Unknowns, An Introduction to Mysteries, to be held from mid-July until December 2022.  The event is sponsored by Triennale in collaboration with the Bureau International des Expositions (BIE) and Italy's Ministry for Foreign Affairs and International Aid.

The thematic exhibition is centred around the theme of the unknown, examining the multiplicity of possibilities which not knowing presents. Far from being an empty void, the unknown is reformulated as an agent for discovery and surprise, reflected in the constellation of exhibitions and projects on display. Embracing the potential of the human senses beyond sight, four Listening Chambers have been established alongside the visual exposition route, facilitating an immersive soundscape for visitors to abandon themselves within.

With over 400 artists, designers and architects taking part, as well as 22 international participants, the Triennale Milano International Exhibition is a spotlight of global creativity, celebrating cultural dialogue and exchange across a range of artistic and cultural disciplines. Featured artists include Francis Kéré - winner of the 2022 Pritzker Architecture Prize -, Francesco Bianconi, and Romeo Castellucci.

The event is also host to a range of other exhibitions and special projects. Mondo Reale, curated by Hervé Chandès, General Artistic Director of the Fondation Cartier pour l’art contemporain, focalises the wonder and mystery which characterises our reality, exploring knowledge and its erasure through works of art by iconic and emerging contemporary artists. And A Tradition of the New, curated by Marco Sammicheli, Director of Triennale’s Museo del Design Italiano, presents an account of the courageous exploration underpinning Italian design; its development from 1964 to 1996 charted via a variety of artefacts and art installations.

With its 100 year anniversary soon to be celebrated in 2023, The Triennale Milano International Exhibition remains at the forefront of international design and architecture, accentuating global creativity and artistic collaboration.
