Triennale Milano during Salone del Mobile

Triennale Milano Exhibitions and Projects During Salone del Mobile 2022

Triennale Milano, a landmark institution in the world of international art and design, hosted a series of new exhibitions and projects for Milano Design Week, shining a global spotlight on leading names and works.

The central exhibition at Triennale was Memphis Again, created in collaboration with Memphis Milano, and curated by Christopher Radl. The project displayed over two hundred pieces of furniture and other objects designed by the iconic Memphis group between 1981 and 1986, drawing on the visual immersion and singular vantage point  of a fashion catwalk to showcase the products.

Other installations engaged with topics of contemporary debate and discourse, forging links between pieces of art and the world in which they are created and received. For example, Forest Tales,  promoted by the American Hardwood Export Council, drew attention to the eponymous sources of raw materials for many products and modes of design, in order to encourage and celebrate greater consideration of sustainable use of wood, and the creative output which this might catalyse. Mathieu Lehanneur’s The Inventory of Life was similarly grounded in real-world statistics and concerns, examining the state of the ever-shifting global population, and the consequences exacted on the planet. Synthesising science with art, Lehanneur sketched a profound portrait of humankind.

The exhibitions were accompanied by a Public Program of meetings, lectures and screenings, as well as evenings dedicated to music, design and discussion. The multidisciplinary, multi-sensory and multi-cultural exchange promoted by Triennale Milano was characteristic of an institution which invites collaboration amidst artistic excellence, and celebrates the entwining of bountiful tradition with thought of the future.
